Here are a few places you can visit in Shimla
Indian Institute of Advanced Studies
Now known as the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, formerly the Rastrapati Niwas and before that the Viceroy Lodge, when the residence was inhabited by the then viceroys of India. Built in the true English architectural style surrounded by Lush Green Gardens on all sides this place would give you the feels of an Oxfordshire castle while in Shimla. Take photos and stroll through the lovely gardens that sprawl around the property, a few areas of the caste are restricted, hence we would implore all the travellers to be respectful of such restrictions. You can also take a guided tour of the university and understand the cultural and historical importance of such places.
The Mall Road
Enjoy a stroll across one of the most famous mall roads in all of Shimla, shop and buy souvenirs and witness the inherent beauty of Shimla. The road has a lot of eateries and shops you can go to, so consider lunch or dinner to be a done deal. Witness the beautiful art murals that have been painted along the Mall road. You would be able to feel and experience the exhilaration and happiness once you stroll across Mall Road.
Jakhu Ji Temple
One of the must-visit places in Shimla is the place to witness the highest statue of Hanuman Ji in the world. The temple has a mystic story behind it, as per the epic of Ramayana it was this place where Hanuman took rest while searching for Sanjivini Booti, for reviving Lakshmana when he had been injured while fighting.
The Ridge
The Ridge area spreads from east and west on the east the market leads to Lakkar Market a wooden crafts market that would be best for you if you want to renovate your house for a new look. Some of the most famous and prominent landmarks of the place would be The Christ church a new – Gothic design built in the year of 1844, and an adjoined library that dates back to the year 1910. The library is Tudorbethan style, on that ridge stand four prudent statues these are of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Dr Y.S. Parmar, and a statue of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. As per the design of the place the ridge has water tanks underneath which are used to deliver water to Shimla.
These tanks supposedly have a capacity of about 10,00,000 gallons, these reservoirs as well as the adjoining network was said to have been established in the year of 1880’s. the whole construction has been done without any kind of mortar, only lime mortar has been used wherever necessary.
Scandal Point
Why scandal point?
The then-ruler of Patiala had eloped with the daughter of the British viceroy, since then the maharaja was banned from entering Shimla by the British authorities. As a reciprocal of the same the ruler established a new summer capital for himself in chail a location that is about 45 km away from Shimla. You can visit this place and further focus on different markets and shops that are present in and around the point.
